The short answer
From £640 at Unirad in Glasgow, for the brain, abdomen and pelvis with a consultant’s report, to £5,500 at Lumen in Harley Street, where the scan sits inside a 4 hour health assessment. 13 of the 22 providers charge between £1,000 and £2,500.
The 3 lowest prices cover the brain, abdomen and pelvis and nothing between: Unirad at £640, Vista Health at £765 and Pall Mall Medical at £795. Unirad’s page says the Silver scan “is not a substitute for cardiac screening”. The lowest price that adds the chest is Vitalscan’s Basic at £880.
The spine is often a step up. New Horizons Imaging charges £1,200 for a whole body MRI and £1,500 with a whole spine overview. Ezra’s £1,299 scan covers the head, neck, abdomen and pelvis, and its page lists the chest, lungs, heart, breasts, spine and limbs as not covered. Prenuvo scans “from head to ankle” for £2,499 and says the scan “Does not include a detailed heart or breast screening”.
Most prices include a written report from a consultant radiologist and a copy of your images. Paul Strickland Scanner Centre and Phoenix Hospital Group have every scan read by 2 consultant radiologists. Some pages do not use the word consultant: Modality MRI says “FRCR-qualified radiologists”, Prenuvo “a registered radiologist”, and New Horizons Imaging “a qualified Consultant Radiologist or reporting radiographer”.
A doctor to go through the results is often sold separately. Unirad charges £50 for an online GP review after the scan, Vista Health £50 or £40 if booked with the scan, and MyScanHub £115 for a follow up GP consultation. Pall Mall Medical includes a GP call of 15 to 30 minutes in every package, LivingCare Group an initial and a follow up consultation with its GP, and Phoenix Hospital Group a virtual GP consultation before the scan and another after.
Above £3,000 the price is for a health screen with an MRI in it. Spire Healthcare’s £3,200 check adds blood tests and 2 consultations with a Spire GP. Harley Street Physicians’ MRI THREE, at £3,320, adds an echocardiogram, a mammogram or breast ultrasound and 2 consultations. Lumen One, at £5,500, is a 4 hour assessment with a 50 minute doctor consultation at the start and another at the end. Below that line, Pall Mall Medical’s Diamond at £1,988 adds a 61 biomarker blood panel to the scan, and MyScanHub’s cancer screening programmes at £2,370 itemise the MRI at £1,295 with ultrasounds, blood tests and 2 GP consultations making up the rest.
Several sites show 2 figures for the same scan. Unirad’s pricing page gives £640 for Silver and a package card gives £590. Vitalscan shows a standard price of £880 and an offer price of £704. The Cancer Screening Trust’s website gives £2,250 and its information pack £1,995. Pall Mall Medical shows every package at an offer price with no end date. Each listing on this site shows both figures and the page each came from.

This page does not answer that. Here is what the bodies that advise on scans and screening say.
The Royal College of Radiologists
“If you have no symptoms, we don’t recommend trying to get an MRI scan without being referred by a doctor, as there is a chance of overdiagnosis and treatment of irregularities that turn out to be nothing to worry about.”
rcr.ac.uk, 12th June 2025
UK National Screening Committee
“Screening tests are not 100% accurate and do not provide a diagnosis.”
GOV.UK, published 21st November 2023
In the providers’ own words. Paul Strickland Scanner Centre: “You don’t need to wait for symptoms or a GP referral.” Prenuvo: “You do not need a GP referral, but all bookings are reviewed by a registered healthcare professional for clinical appropriateness and safety.” Unirad: “Self-referrals are subject to a brief clinical review, and for certain scans a GP or specialist referral may still be required”. Goodbody Clinic arranges the referral the scanning centre needs itself. New Horizons Imaging says “Not always” and runs a self referral service for many scan types.

Goodbody Clinic: “a Goodbody clinician calls you to explain what it is, how urgent it is, and how to take the report to your GP or a specialist for NHS or private follow-up.” Paul Strickland Scanner Centre: “We will contact your GP immediately if an urgent finding needs further investigation and follow-up care.” New Horizons Imaging: “We will contact you immediately and advise you to seek medical attention or consult your GP.” Pall Mall Medical says scans and results “can be securely transferred directly to your NHS GP or hospital consultant”. Spire Healthcare says treatment of any diagnosed condition is not covered by its price.
